In late January 2019, Elias Neocleous & Co LLC Lawyers, Mrs. Maria Hadjisavva and Mr. Theofanis Michailidis participated in the two-day Patient Safety Conference 2019 held in Nicosia and organized by the International Units of Continuing Nursing and Midwifery Education, with the support of the Pancyprian Medical Association and other professional medical organisations.
The objective of the conference was to involve all interested, professional organizations and individuals in discussions centering on the prevailing situation in Cyprus in regards to patient safety and the medical negligence framework, and to share the specific experiences and practices that have been successfully implemented in other countries. The conference aimed to exchange views and experiences regarding current practices in patient safety, and the treatment of professionals both in legal cases and the media when errors occur. Participants actively engaged in these discussions with a view to developing a map of suggestions for a National Patient Safety Plan to implement systemic preventative measures and create a strong legal framework for the safety of patients and the fair treatment of those involved in their care.
