Politics overshadow Turkish Cypriots’ fight for citizenship

The above article, written by Trainee Lawyer Aylin Zeybek, has been published in the Cyprus Mail.  The article concerns the position of Turkish Cypriot people applying for Cypriot citizenship where one parent is of Turkish origin.  A recent Administrative Court decision has agreed that such applications have been subject to unreasonable delay on the part of the Cyprus authorities and should receive a timely response.  Aylin explores the possible responses that may be given under Cyprus law and the basis on which a negative response may ultimately be referred to the European Court of Human Rights.
