A simpler page for businesses in the EU? Overviewing the Omnibus Packages of Simplification Measures

The Omnibus Simplification Package, introduced by the European Commission in February 2025, aims to ease sustainability compliance burdens on EU businesses, particularly small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), by simplifying key legislative frameworks such as the CSRD, CSDDD, EU Taxonomy, CBAM, and InvestEU. The proposals include reducing administrative costs by up to 35% for SMEs, narrowing mandatory reporting scopes, postponing deadlines, and offering lighter auditing requirements. While some critics argue that this could weaken EU’s environmental objectives, the reforms seek to strike a balance between maintaining sustainability standards and enhancing competitiveness, innovation, and investment within the EU.
